Farewell to Syd With Sam

As you might have guessed from the title of this post, I am bringing Syd With Sam to an end; but it is not a sad ending, it’s a happy one. Bright opportunities are ahead, and I’ll be continuing to write in other spaces online.

To explain a little about why this will be my last blog post, I want to recount a few of the major things that happened or changed in my life in 2017: I started going to church, I got baptised, I got married and I also started studying writing (as part of a Bachelor of Arts) in July. These four things have had a major impact on my life, and I’ve gotten a lot more serious about considering how I use my time. 2017 was a trying year for me, but it was also one of the best of my life so far.

To phrase things simply: this will be my last blog post because my priorities have changed.

My ambitions for the year ahead are more focused on enjoying life and becoming a great writer. Due to the nature of blog content, with Syd With Sam, I often felt the need to focus on eye-catching photos and pushing content out quickly, which meant that the actual writing in my posts often suffered. As a writer, I don’t want to continue to sacrifice substance over style in favour of keeping my blog running, so I would rather focus on other opportunities. Through the year, along with studying, I will be focusing on getting more writing published and getting polished pieces out into the world. I also have some more writing-focused blog ideas floating around in my head, so if I do launch a different project, rest assured that I will update this blog and my socials with the name and link.

To anyone who has read or enjoyed anything I’ve posted on Syd With Sam: a sincere thank you.

Before I started this blog, I was terrified to write anything in my own voice on the internet. The kind responses from family, friends and some people on the internet have really encouraged me to get out there more with my ideas and writing, and that is what I am planning to do with the year 2018. A few years ago, I didn’t even know that I wanted to be a writer. This blog helped me realise my love for writing and also furthered my love for the wonderful city that I live in. Although this blog will no longer be updated from now on, I still love Sydney, and I will be writing my food and event articles for Weekend Notes.
